Studied at NIT Calicut

NIT Calicut has certain eligibility criteria that students must meet in order to be eligible for placements. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

  • Students must have completed their degree program (B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, etc.) from NIT Calicut or any other recognized institution.
  • Students must have achieved a minimum CGPA of 6.5 (out of 10) or 60% aggregate marks in their degree program.
  • Students must not have any pending backlogs or arrears in their degree program.
  • Students must have a good academic record, with consistent performance throughout their degree program.
  • Students must have good communication and interpersonal skills, as these are important for many job roles.
  • Students must meet any additional eligibility criteria specified by the companies visiting for placements.

It is important to note that meeting the above eligibility criteria does not guarantee placement, as companies have their own selection processes and criteria. Students should also focus on developing their skills and gaining relevant experience through internships and projects, as this can increase their chances of securing good placements.

The points below give a brief overview of the criteria in placement for both core and IT companies.

  • CGPA is considered to be the most important criteria for the initial selection of candidates in placement.
  • During the placement of core companies, they declare their own cut-off CGPA, below which students are not allowed to sit for placement even by small margins. Generally, the CGPA margin for core companies is 6.5+. But, most core companies prefer students with excellent CGPA only. Even a student with a CGPA of 6.49 is not allowed to sit if the cut-off is declared 6.5.
  • IT and companies dealing with business analytics put more attention towards the programming, communication, and other soft skills of students. For IT companies, even a CGPA of below 6.5 could be enough for students with good coding and interpersonal skills.
  • For core companies, there are few instances in which students with lesser CGPA get placed. But, a low CGPA cannot be covered up with good participation certificates like sports and other activities.
  • According to the placement statistics of 2018-19, students with 6.5 were able to sit for placement easily. The only exception lies with the companies having no CGPA criterion, who allows all students to sit for placement.
  • In NIT Calicut, if a student gets a placement offer on-campus, he/she is not allowed to sit for further on-campus placements, until there is a PSU or any company offering a huge placement package.

These are the criteria for placement at NIT Calicut simplified, which needs to be taken care of by candidates who are interested in on-campus jobs.
