Honestly speaking, BIT Mesra is nowhere near the IITs and top NITs. It can however be compared to other NITs like NIT Rourkela, Jamshedpur. Surat, etc.
The institute is known to have excellent campus facilities but the opportunities in core branches are limited. BIT Mesra is a brand name well-known among private colleges. It can be compared to the new IITs to a little extent and is even better than VIT and Manipal University. The only drawback is that getting a high GPA here is quite challenging.
Nevertheless, BIT Mesra is a decent choice for many if you consider the following points
Ultimately, BIT Mesra is better than most NITs but not at par with IITs and a few top NIT.
In terms of comparison with IITs and NITs, it cannot be compared to the top IITs and a few NITs comprising the top four or five. Following that, it is a strict University that strives to produce industry-ready graduates.
According to the NIRF 2020 Rankings of Educational Institutions, which were measured by the Government of India itself, BIT Mesra received the following positions.
Although it can't be compared to IITs, placements are quite good. An average salary of 11.76 LPA has been recorded while the highest package of 49.76 LPA has been offered.
Some professors are very friendly and have a lot to teach you. The hostel mess isn't all that bad and the weather is lovely there. It rains almost every day during the summer, and of course during the monsoon. Students do complain about some rules of the institute which seems unnecessary.
The biggest issue here is the lack of communication between students and the administration. But, in the end, when you pass out, these things don't matter and become a lifelong memory of which one can reminisce fondly.
