Both IIM Ranchi and MDI Gurgaon are good B-Schools. MDI is one of the top private business schools in India and ranked 10 in the management category by NIRF. However, IIM Ranchi is among the new IIMs of the country and ranked 28th by NIRF. If we compare the two B-Schools in terms of the peer group, alumni network, placement, infrastructure, location than MDI is a little shade of IIM Ranchi. Given below is a brief discussion of the factors that you should consider while choosing your B-School.
Peer Group: IIM Ranchi is amongst the new generation of IIMs. The institute takes admission through CAT, and the process comes under CAP IIMs. In contrast, MDIs’ PGP program has been established in the 1990s and has gained a reputation among the corporate and the students over the years on its excellent performance. Hence, the CAT cutoff of MDI lies mostly above 97.5%ile (since it is a private college, there are no reservations), whereas, for IIM Ranchi, the cutoff usually below 95%ile depending on the category. Hence, the peer group and ultimately, the competition and peer learning at MDI are better than IIM Ranchi.
Alumni network: MDI is more than 45 years old college and has a larger alumni network and reach compared to IIM Ranchi, which was established in 2010. Also, in IIMs there is no PAN Alumni network. At the corporate level, new IIMs don’t benefit from reputation and alum network of older IIMs.
Placements: Both the institute offers decent placement to the students, but MDI is performing a little ahead of IIM Ranchi. According to 2018-2020 placement statistics, the highest CTC and the average CTC at MDI were around 40 LPA and 22 LPA. While in IIM Ranchi the highest CTC (domestic) offered was around 22.37 LPA and the average CTC was 15.11 LPA
Brand: As a brand name IIM is more valued than the private colleges and offers certain advantages.
Fees: MDI being a private B-school, has a higher course fee of around 18.48 lakh compared to IIM Ranchi, which is around 13.84 lakh.
