NMIMS is a better option than Mumbai University for MSc Statistics because of these simple reasons

  • NMIMS has much better infrastructure than Mumbai University and offers better facilities and campus life.
  • Better recruiters visit NMIMS and the placement scenario is much better than Mumbai University.
  • The processors at NMIMS are very approachable and helpful in contrast to MU The teaching staff is better than Mumbai University and they are quite cooperative with students as compared to MU professors that despite being learned refuse to help students.
  • NMIMS ensures proper attendance to classes while Mumbai Univeristy has a pathetic attendance scenario.

The simple points above are enough to prove that NMIMS is better than Mumbai University for MSc Statistics.

BSc from University of Mumbai

NMIMS is better than Mumbai University for an M.Sc. in Statistics. The course is more practical oriented. NMIMS placements are better too. Students of M.Sc Statistics receive an average CTC of around INR 8 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 16.8 LPA. Students are offered roles such as Data Scientists, and Data Analysts. Course 5i, and Accenture are among the major recruiters.

The master's in Statistics offered by MU is more theory-oriented and doesn’t offer the skills required in the industry.

Studied at University of Mumbai (2019)

One of my cousins is studying PGD in Applied Statistics at the University of Mumbai and knows every professor from UoM Statistics Department.

Here are some pros and cons of Mumbai University.

Pros:

  1. It has a qualified and highly skilled faculty. Professors have deep theoretical knowledge.
  2. The statistics department has good industry contacts.
  3. It offers good placement offers. The average salary recorded here is 8.8 LPA

Cons:

  1. Professors mostly focus on theory so you will not understand the statistics of applications.
  2. Students are taught old tech software with which you cannot code SAS, R.
  3. You won’t get a chance of doing an internship as vacations are mostly spent completing projects.

If you going for M.Sc at NMIMS, you will get an internship opportunity in a government organization. This will give you good exposure to the industry.

Therefore, NMIMS is better than the University of Mumbai for pursuing an MSC in Statistics. Also, you will get a good opportunity if you have completed a Masters in Statistics and solved 9 Actuarial science papers.
