The difficulty of getting into the FPM program at XLRI varies from person to person depending on several factors. Some of these determining factors are the number of applicants, their qualifications, and the admissions criteria of the program. Here are the eligibility criteria of the FPM program that might give you an insight into the toughness of getting into FPM XLRI.
However, in general, the FPM program at XLRI is considered to be quite competitive, with a rigorous selection process that includes an application, an interview, and a written test. To increase your chances of being accepted into the program, it is important to have a strong academic record, relevant work experience, and a clear research proposal.
It is definitely not easy to get into the FPM program in XLRI. You need to have good research aptitude, along with a decent XAT/GMAT score. You should have a consistently good academic record as well. Shortlisted students are called for an interview. Students who perform well in the PI round are selected for final admission.
It is quite tough to get into this program as my brother got his convert back in 2013. From what he told me regarding the interview, and even now, the panelists are known to be extremely good at what they do. You will have to be confident in yourself and you should prepare very well as they will test you thoroughly.
Since research is a prime matter of interest, you will need to show that you have a passion for it. You also will need a really good XAT or GMAT score with an excellent academic profile as the score matters to quite an extent.
You should also know that XLRI charges fees that include hostel charges and a few other components for the FPM program. So if you are expecting the fee structure to be like that of IIMs, you might be surprised to see otherwise.
As far as the latest information is concerned, the college offers a complete tuition fee waiver and most students are also awarded a fellowship starting INR 25,000 per month which increases to about INR 30,000 per month after two years.
Overall, the program is quite a rigorous one. It could stretch for about 4 to 5 years. If you have any work experience, that might play in your favor too. You will have to be well prepared in all the aspects mentioned above and this should help you secure your seat.
