Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Mathematics Operational Research and Statistics (Professional Placement))
Field of Study:
£25,288/Yr
To many people statistics means numbers Ð collecting them and organising them. The field of modern statistics involves much more. It is the source of techniques developed to help managers and researchers to draw reliable conclusions from observations that contain variation.
Operational research techniques, sometimes called management science, provide quantitative decision-making methods complementary to statistical analysis, such as the control of queues and of stock, and quality control.
The BSc in Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics combines specialisation in statistics and operational research, with the study of the principles of mathematics, offering a good grounding in general mathematical theory and techniques.
This particular version of the degree allows you to spend your third year in paid work as a mathematician and/or statistician at an organisation in the United Kingdom or Europe. You will have support to apply for a placement, which can be undertaken with a wide range of providers across industry and government including many in the financial services, the pharmaceutical industry and organisations such as the Office for National Statistics. If you complete the professional training period you can be considered for the City and Guilds Senior Licentiateship Award (LCGI).
