Why study this course with us?
- German at Chester provides a structured framework within which you move towards increasing independence.
- Introductory modules and modules in distinct thematic areas introduce you to theoretical concepts, and assessments help you to apply these concepts in increasingly challenging ways. Subsequent modules will deepen your understanding and you will undertake independent projects with the scope to pursue your own interests in the subject area.
- You have an opportunity to undertake a placement at the end of Year 2 (Level 5). Depending on factors within your mode of study, you may also have the opportunity to complete an academic year in either Germany, Austria or Switzerland.Ê
- In your first year you will have the opportunity to study a further language from scratch.
- A Psychology and German degree from the University of Chester will equip you with a broad range of employability skills, including literacy, numeracy, critical appraisal, data handling, communication, and logical problem-solving skills.
- If you are interested in a career in psychology, there are specialist routes through the course where you can take relevant elective modules at each level.
- We also offer an optional further year of study abroad in Europe, the USA or Australia.
Job prospects
- Many of our graduates go on to postgraduate studies in Psychology (e.g. Cognitive Neuroscience, Forensic and Sport Psychology) or have secured a graduate role in industries such as Marketing, Banking and Project Management due to their sought after transferable skills, such as communication, team working, analysis, creative and critical thinking.
- A degree in German develops a range of highly desirable skills for employers including communication and presentation skills, the ability to work independently/with others, and analytical and critical thinking. Placements abroad enhance confidence and resilience. Graduates often pursue further study or careers in translation, teaching, business, hospitality or in international organisations.
