All courses are designed to:

Teaching and learning

You will be taught by academics who are experts in their field and your learning experience will be enriched by our internationally-engaged, research-active campus culture. We will also offer a wide range of opportunities for personal development which will be delivered by specialists in our Careers Service, Academic Skills Centre and Library, or in partnership with the StudentsÕ Union.

All three subject areas have a first year that provides a firm base for later specialisation. With significant overlap in the first year, there is the possibility to transfer between subjects.

In subsequent years each subject becomes more distinct. Biology provides a broad range of options spanning all levels of organisation from the molecular to the population. Biochemistry focuses at the molecular level, Molecular and Cellular Biology shares some elements with Biochemistry, but also includes the cellular aspects of Biology.

It is possible to transfer to a programme which includes a professional placement in your first year.

Teaching and learning is through a variety of methods including lectures, seminars and tutorials, practical sessions, field trips, workshops, practical projects, problem solving classes and professional placement.

Students are encouraged and supported in developing an independent learning style to maximise their academic performance and enable them to take advantage of lifelong learning opportunities.
