This collection of master's degrees gives you the theoretical background and practical skills for a career tackling contemporary issues in Finance. Each course has been created in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Finance (CFA), so your modules also contribute towards the institute's own qualification, which you can work to complete after graduation. The Finance and Investment Banking course is offered by Nottingham Trent University.

Your first semester develops a strong core knowledge of institutional, accounting and financial modelling frameworks. You'll explore the operation of markets, their major participants and the regulatory environment, as well as building a firm understanding of corporate finance, basic accounting and financial analysis.

In your second semester you can deepen your core knowledge of Finance, or specialise by taking an Investment Banking or Accounting route. Finally, your third semester sees you undertake a major project, applying your skills in a real-world setting, conducting independent research or gaining an international perspective by working overseas.

Finally, in your third semester, you'll choose one of our major experience projects, applying your skills in a real-world setting, conducting a piece of independent research or gaining an international perspective by working overseas.

Why choose this course?
  • The course will give you a wide-ranging theoretical background and equip you with practical skills for active interaction in the world of finance.
  • You can add a year's work placement, making your master's a two year course.
  • It is run by tutors who have both academic and practical industry experience in finance.
  • The emphasis of the course is on applying knowledge, skills and techniques to analyse the instruments, participants and markets in international finance.
  • You'll also be able to specialise in an area of finance that particularly interests you.
  • There is a unique opportunity to complete a major project - either a Consultancy Experience, Internship, Business Research Project or Global Experience. The project options will enhance your CV and allow you to stand out in a very competitive job market.
  • You will complete a comprehensive development programme, which includes a short residential team-building course, usually held in the Peak District.
  • You can learn from the best by attending guest lectures from leading organisations. Previous speakers have included representatives from organisations such as E.ON, Lego, Experian, Santander, and IBM.
  • You can also build your skills and knowledge further with extra-curricular activities such as joining a society, volunteering, becoming a Student Ambassador.
Placement year opportunities

If you are starting your course in September, you can choose to add a year's work placement, making your master's a two-year course. It's a great way to put your learning into practice and gain valuable real-world experience to boost your career. We have extensive links with corporate partners who can offer placements, so we can help you find something perfect. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester Three.

If you're unable to take a full year's placement, but have completed at least 36 weeks, you can qualify for a Placement Diploma in Industrial Experience.

Career prospects

This route opens up a whole range of finance careers, including investment banking, pensions analysis and unit and investment trust management. Roles include financial manager, financial analyst or financial adviser.
