Distinctive features of this course
As a Joint Honours degree student you will study both subjects equally offering you a wide choice of options within subjects. You will study across a broad range of mathematical topics and engaging with a number of specialist themes such as experiments in economics, economics of innovation, globalisation and international trade, financial economics and law and economics, Abstract Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, Group Theory, Solar Theory, Statistics in Practice, Statistical Inference and the History of Mathematics. The background of many of the teaching staff, who as well as being experienced academics, have extensive experience working for, or advising, a number of organisations such as the Council of Economic Advisers to the First Minister, the Bank of England, the European Central Bank (ECB), HM Customs and Inland Revenue and the Calman Commission. It may be possible to spend a semester or year studying abroad as part of this degree programme.
