AIIMS Delhi Admission 2024
Admission to all the courses at AIIMS Delhi is entrance-based. AIIMS Delhi Admission involves two major stages- Entrance Exam and Counselling Process. Admission to MBBS at AIIMS Delhi is based on NEET UG. For PG and Super Specialty Courses such as MD/ MS/ MDS, and DM/ M.Ch, the admission is based on INI CET and INI SS, respectively. Which way is better, to do an MS general surgery and then take up neurosurgery as a superspeciality, or the direct 6yrs (Mch) Neurosurgery course (offered by AIIMS and NIMHANS) after an MBBS?
I’ll be sharing with you my opinion on both.
As a 6-year MCh candidate, you’ll rotate through 10 months of general surgery. However, general surgery skills aren’t of much use in Neurosurgery, except the very basic knot-tying and suturing skills. You can also acquire those from dedicated lab practice. The other techniques followed in Neurosurgery are very different from those followed in general surgery.
Neurosurgeons generally use access surgeons (thoracic surgeons or urologists) to perform unconventional approaches to the spine. It is much safer for the patient. Also, opting for a 6-year course after MBBS means one less entrance exam.
So it isn’t very beneficial for you to take up 3 years of MS general surgery. I would recommend you choose the direct 6 year Mh Neurosurgery course at AIIMS or NIMHANS instead.
What is the preparation strategy of AIIMS Delhi?
The best way is not to set any targets because when you do, you are limiting yourself to a certain extent. You may or may not achieve your target. But if you don’t set one, you can aim for the sky. AIIMS Delhi was the dream college of one of my friends who had literally no chance of making it into it. The only mantra he followed was not to expect yourself to perform to a particular or specific level, but rather give it your all. As for the preparation strategy, here is what he shared
- Practice Assertion Reason questions: This section is often underestimated when in reality it is a major rank-determining factor.
- Attend assertion reason questions in the beginning: Some might find it weird, but he chose to solve Assertion Reason before the exams as they required a fresh mind which would not have been possible after exams.
- Don’t forget the negative marks: The negative marking might affect your overall performance drastically so beware of it.
- Always stay patient: Don't panic even if you find the question paper to be very challenging as you will forget whatever you have studied.

How much prize money can I get if I got AIR 1 in the NEET, AIIMS, and JIPMER?
The official authorities don’t award any prize money to NEET toppers but the toppers are awarded cash prizes from their coaching institute. For instance, Allen Carrier Institute produced NEET 2022 toppers Tanishka. In the victory carnival of ALLEN, she received 21 Lakhs along with other toppers.
Additionally here is what will happen if you get AIR 1:
- Your name will be included in the Limca Book of Records.
- Every news channel will want to feature you making you a celebrity overnight.
- All book brands pay for you for your testimony.
- The coaching module's back cover will have your photos.
However, I feel one must value respect and humbleness more than the money you earn.
Do all of the 7 AIIMS take their students for Shimla trip or is it only for AIIMS Delhi students?
Talking about official out-station trips, none of the AIIMS institutions send their students on official out-station trips.
AIIMS Jodhpur sends its students to various inter-college fests, for example, Chiasma (AIIMS Bhubaneswar), and Silhouettes (AFMC, Pune), among others. The same goes for other AIIMS institutions.
Regarding the annual freshers’ trip to Shimla, the trip is planned by the Student Welfare Union of AIIMS Delhi. Thus, it is not an official trip and is organized by a student body. AIIMS Delhi has been in place for a very long time and so while other institutions do not have such a tradition in place, the student body at AIIMS Delhi follows it.
How is the food at the AIIMS Delhi for students?
Quality of food offered at AIIMS Delhi mess is good compared to other medical colleges in India. The campus has a total of seven messes. Four are attached to hostels and for enrolled students. Three are general for visitors.
The mess menu has a variety of options. There are plenty to choose from. The menu includes veg, non-veg, and South-Indian items.
AIIMS Delhi mess fees are around INR 2000 per month for four meals (breakfast, lunch, tea, dinner) format of a fixed menu. The amount varies for student-run messes. It will be around 2000-3000.
What happens at the first day in AIIMS Delhi for an MBBS?
The first day at AIIMS Delhi for an MBBS student is generally filled with various orientation programs and formalities. Here's what you can expect on your first day:
- Reporting to the institute: You will need to report to the institute at the designated time and location, which will be communicated to you by the administration. You will be required to carry your original documents, admission letter, and fee receipt for verification.
- Orientation program: The orientation program is an essential part of the first day, where you will be introduced to the institute's faculty, staff, and infrastructure. The program will provide you with an overview of the MBBS curriculum, including the subjects and topics that you will study during the course.
- Campus tour: You may be taken on a campus tour, which will familiarize you with the institute's facilities, such as lecture halls, laboratories, library, hostel, and sports complex.
- Formalities: You will be required to complete various formalities, such as submission of necessary documents, filling up of admission forms, medical check-ups, and getting your ID card.
- Interaction with seniors: You may also get the opportunity to interact with senior MBBS students who can provide you with insights into the course and the institute.
Overall, the first day at AIIMS Delhi is crucial for getting acquainted with the institute and its processes. It's important to attend all the orientation programs and complete the formalities as per the guidelines to start your MBBS journey on the right note.
Which is better AIIMS or JIPMER?
Although both JIPMER and AIIMS are elite medical colleges in India, I believe AIIMS is slightly better than JIPMER. Here are some common differences that can be pointed out
- JIPMER has a higher intake than AIIMS so the student-teacher ratio is also higher. This further results in a higher student-patient ratio when one patient is examined for a class.
- AIIMS has a bigger hospital, more patient flow, and better equipment thereby enhancing the overall learning experience. In AIIMS students are left to study on their own and academics aren’t forced upon them while in JIPMER the teachers teach a lot of theory and practice.
- AIIMS refers most general and simple cases to other hospitals so you won’t be able to see a variety of cases while in JIPMER, you see all types of cases.
- AIIMS has better research facilities and funding so if you are willing to do research projects, AIIMS is better for you.
- JIPMER offers extensive internships that teach a lot and provide hands-on experience and clinical practice. AIIMS clinical testing and internships aren’t that good.
- Both JIPMER and AIIMS have a strong alumni network and reservations for post-graduation courses that give you ample opportunities for courses and jobs after finishing your studies.
- Delhi being a metropolitan city has better recreational activities while Pondicherry is the best place if you want a peaceful and calm environment.
- Pulse by AIIMS is the largest intercollegiate medical festival in the country while Spandan by JIPMER is probably the second largest. Pulse definitely has better cultural activities while Spandan definitely has better sporting ones.
- AIIMS has better post-graduation and super specialty courses.
Overall, both are excellent institutes and if you even have a choice between AIIMS and JIPMER, then go for AIIMS.
Can one clear AIIMS Delhi within 1 year of preparation?
Yes, it’s possible to clear AIIMS Delhi with only one year of preparation. Usually, students take 2 years to prepare but there are many who have done it in one. If you put in the required effort, it’s possible.
You should adopt a target-based preparation strategy. Take a chapter and keep on giving tests until you score at least 90% in it. Once done, move on to the next chapter. Make daily, weekly, and monthly preparation plans.
How can I get in AIIMS Delhi?
AIIMS Delhi admissions are now based on the NEET examination. The examination now tests a candidate’s accuracy and speed more than his mental abilities.
- Stick to NCERT and do not leave any details untouched
- Read in-between the lines
- Use one reference book or one coaching module. In case you find any topic difficult, refer to the reference book or coaching module
- Practice your speed
- You need to have a good command of the language in which you will be giving your exam. This will enable you to understand what the question demands from you
- If you have 6 months for your preparation, use 5 months to study, and the remaining one month to revise and practice mock tests
- Take as many mock tests as you can to clear your exam with the required rank. Take at least 10 mock tests.
- If your memorizing skills are good, give more time to Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Physics
- If your logical skills are good, give more priority to Biology and Inorganic Chemistry
- Refer to your Physics manual and, for problems, practice using D.C. Pandey and for theory refer to H.C. Verma
- 10-14 hours per day of dedicated preparation will get you through
- Stay hydrated, Keep a healthy sleep routine, and exercise
You must follow these basic practices and make sure to prepare with dedication and honesty to secure a position at AIIMS Delhi. Although the competition is high, with the proper routine you will be able to achieve a high enough rank to get into AIIMS Delhi.
