Are the rooms at NLSIU and NALSAR good?

Alok TripathiB.A LLB from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad (2024)

The rooms at NLSIU hostel are more or less okay. It is a government-backed institute and we cannot compare it with NALSAR.

The rooms at NLSIU can accommodate three students. They are not very spacious and you might find it difficult to share the rooms. There is no need for AC as the weather in Hyderabad is comfortable. There are coolers for the hotter months.

In the case of NALSAR, you will be sharing your room with another student for the first three years. From the 4th year onwards, you will have your own room. The rooms are not that spacious. With the construction of new hostel buildings, the problem of overcrowding is being dealt with.

Is it compulsory to stay in a hostel at NALSAR and NLSIU?

Sakshi GuptaRakesh TodiStudied at National Law School of India University, Bangalore, graduated in 2020

For the students of the first year who are studying in NLSIU, it is compulsory for them to stay in hostels. However, the option of going home on weekends will always be open for them. Just fill up a permission form and you are good to go. Someone I know used to be a student of NLSIU and she and her batchmates used to visit their families this way.

If you live in Bangalore, you can travel from your house to the institute without asking for permission.

After you have completed your first year you will be able to live off-campus. Knowing the busy traffic of Bangalore, it may get difficult to travel to and from the campus.

This is not allowed in NALSAR, though. You will have to spend the entirety of your course in the hostels.

What should one bring if he/she is staying at a hostel in NLSIU Bangalore?

Divya BatraStudied at National Law School of India University, Bangalore

If you are staying in a hostel in NLSIU Bangalore then you should take the things that are required by you daily as a part of your utilities. You should either buy them from a nearby market or bring them from your home.

Following are a few list of items that you must carry with you:

  • Carry a set of clothes containing a mix of formal and informal ones.
  • You should have a laptop with a multi-plug point.
  • Some clean bedsheets, pillow covers, single-window curtains, and towels are also required.
  • Basic set of cutlery that includes a plate, knife, spoon, bowls, etc.
  • Table lamp and kettle are extra utilities but they are quite useful
  • Mosquito Net

Thus, we can conclude that you must get the basic utilities along with you once you are going to stay in a hostel.
