The mandatory courses for Ph.D. students are Microeconomics-I, Macroeconomics-I, Econometrics-I, Energy, and Environment. Ph.D. students can select their optional courses which include (a) any two courses from Microeconomics-II, Macroeconomics-II, Econometrics-II and Energy and Environment-II, (b) one core field of specialization comprising of four optional courses in the relevant field, (c) one minor field of specialization comprising of two optional courses in the relevant field, and (d) two other optional courses from separate fields. The optional courses/ fields of specializations provided by the Institute are alike to those written down under the MSc program.
To continue in the Ph.D. course, students must pass Oral Comprehensive Examination in the way of a Proposal cum Evaluation seminar and are anticipated to submit a Ph.D. dissertation within the allotted time and manage the assigned course and minimum grade demand.
Ph.D. program includes successful completion of course work as well as submission of dissertations. Ph.D. students are anticipated to submit their dissertations within four years of joining the institute.

There is a placement committee, a student body at the Institute that works in immediate coordination with the Faculty Placement Committee, which offers a stage for students aspiring recruitments to connect with possible recruiters on the campus. The Placement Committee has easily maintained a 100% placement record.
Ph.D. students from the institute are known to be placed in the corporate sector. Some of the students also pursue doctorate courses at IGIDR. Some students in the past five years have been recruited by various top companies such as PWC, AMEX, ICICI Bank, etc. The highest package is around 18 Lakhs per annum and 15 Lakhs per annum as average and goes to the lowest of 10 Lakhs per annum.
The Placement Committee genially asks the corporate firms, banks, research organizations, government institutions, and non-government institutions to be a part of the placement program.

Ques. What is the application fee for a Ph.D. at IGIDR?
Ans. The application form fees for general category students is Rs 500/- only.
The application form fees for reserved categories such as SC/ST/PwD/OBC/EWS are Rs 100/- only.
Ques. Does IGIDR provide any loans or scholarships to Ph.D. students?
Ans. Ph.D. students are offered a monthly stipend of Rs 25,000/- in the first two years of the program. Those Scholars, who fulfill the terms and conditions for Ph.D. Registration is offered with a monthly stipend of Rs 35,000/- after Ph.D. registration in the third year.
Ques. Is there any compulsory internship for Ph.D. scholars at IGIDR?
Ans. Yes, along with final placements, companies and research organizations also recruit first-year Ph.D. students for summer internships. Interviews for summer interns also take place along with final placements of final year Ph.D. students during the Placement week.
The summer internship recruitment process is similar to the final placement process.
Ques. Is the Ph.D. program good at IGIDR?
Ans. Many students pursue their doctoral courses either at IGIDR or abroad. Several opportunities are availed to Ph.D. students along with various other facilities such as travel expenses, book reimbursement, etc. included in the scholarship offered by the Institute. The faculties as well as non-faculties are very educated and supportive. The Institute environment for Ph.D. scholars is full of knowledge and skills.
Ques. What is the placement process for Ph.D. at IGIDR?
Ans. The Final Placement week for the current academic year is from December 14, 2020, to December 18, 2020. The process generally includes a Pre-Placement Talk in October/ November further visit by the companies during Placement Week where they direct Aptitude Test, Group Discussions, and Personal Interviews to recruit students.
Some of the companies also involve the Personality Profiling Round in their recruitment process.
Companies also give Pre-Placement Talks to students on campus before the final placement round.
