Solapur University Ph.D Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who wish to seek admission for the Ph.D program of Solapur University shall have the following eligibility:
- Shall have a Master’s degree or a professional degree equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the Solapur University
- Shall have passed in qualifying examinations with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale.
- A relaxation 5% aggregate marks or equivalent relaxation are given to the reserve category students.
- Those who have cleared the M.Phil. Course work of Solar University with at least 55% of aggregate marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale are also eligible.
- Those candidates whose M.Phil. Dissertation of Solapur University has been evaluated and the Viva Voce is still left for approval are also eligible.
- Candidates appearing for the postgraduate final year examination are also eligible to apply.
Solapur University Ph.D Admission Guidelines
The selection criteria for Admissions to the Ph.D programs of the Solapur University are based on the Ph.D Entrance Test (PET) scores and further Interview and viva-voce.
- Candidates shall qualify for the PET with at least a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
- Candidates who get shortlisted based on merit rank through PET will be called for stage 2 of the admission process.
- Candidates above 60 years of age, Foreign Candidates and candidates qualified NET/SET/SLET/GATE/M.Phil are exempted from PET.
- The qualified candidates will be called for an interview/ viva-voce conducted by the Departmental Research Committee (DRC)/ Central Research Committee (CRC)
- The University will notify the students of the interview procedure at its official website.
- Candidates are also required to present a small presentation to discuss their research area of interest.
- 70% of weightage will be given to PET and 30 % of weightage will be given to the performance in the interview and viva-voce.
- Those who are exempted from taking the Ph.D Entrance Test will be selected based on the Post-Graduation scores.
- Seats are also reserved for SC/ ST/ OBC(non-creamy layer)/ differently-abled/ any other category candidates.

Course Duration: Ph.D programme shall be of a minimum duration of three years, including coursework and a maximum of six years. Course Work: Grades in the course work, including research methodology courses shall be finalized after a combined assessment by the Research Advisory Committee and the Department/ Research Centre. Ph.D. students shall acquire a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent grade/ CGPA in order to be eligible for the continuation of their Ph.D. program.
Dissertation/Thesis Submission: After the successful completion of the course work, students are required to produce a draft dissertation within the prescribed duration.
- Ph.D. scholars shall publish at least one research paper in a refereed journal from the approved list of UGC.
- Students are required to present two paper presentations in conferences/ seminars before the submission of the dissertation/thesis for evaluation.
- The Ph.D. thesis submitted by a student shall be evaluated by the Research Supervisor and two external examiners.
Viva-Voce/ Open Defense: Ph.D. students are also required to submit the Open Defense to defend their research thesis. The evaluation for the viva-voce will be done by the two external examiners.
Final Thesis Submission: If the examiners have asked the Ph.D. scholars for some revisions or corrections, the students shall submit the revised and final thesis in the prescribed time.
Degree Award: Students will be awarded the doctoral degree after the successful completion of coursework, open seminars, Final Thesis, and Open Defense.
