The University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) is a private University established in 2008. It is affiliated with National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), University Grant Commission (UGC), Association of Indian Universities(AIU).
It offers a 3 years full-time Ph.D. course to the candidates with 17 specializations. The candidates with 55% of marks in their Masters are eligible to apply for the course. The students can apply through both Online and Offline methods.
The candidates must sit for the Entrance Examination URTE (University Research Entrance Test) that is conducted by the University Research Council (URC). Ones who have passed the National Entrance Test (NET)/ State Eligibility Test (SLET) need not sit for the entrance examination in USTM.
The selection procedure is based on both the academic performance of the candidates throughout and also the performance of the entrance test.

USTM Meghalaya Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
- The candidates must pass his/ her graduation in the respective discipline with not less than 55% from a recognized university
- For the Engineering Field, the candidates must have a minimum of 60 % marks in their Masters from a recognized University.
USTM Meghalaya Ph.D. Admission Guidelines
The selection of the candidates in Ph. D course is 50% based on candidates' academic credentials and 50% based on entrance test and Interview.
The candidates who have qualified NET or SLET are exempted from the written test.
How To Apply?
The candidates can apply for Ph. D in the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya through both offline and online methods. They must follow the below-given steps.
For Online
- Candidates must visit the official website of USTM
- Register and fill in the application form with correct personal and Educational information
- Upload the scanned documents where required
- The application fee of Rupees 2200 must be paid online through Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card
- Submit the filled-in application form and take a printout of the same for future reference
For Offline
- Candidates must visit the official website of USTM, and download the application form and prospectus from there
- The application fee of Rupees 2200 must be paid during submission of form either in cash or in Demand Draft of any Nationalized Bank drawn in favor of "University of Science and Technology Meghalaya” payable at Guwahati

Entrance Exam pattern
The entrance exam is a pen-paper test of 2 hours and the full marks is 100. The questions of the entrance examination are from the post graduation course. It shall consist of both Multiple Choice Questions(MCQ) and Descriptive Questions.
In order to qualify, the candidates must secure at least 50% in the entrance examination.

Course work
The candidates have to undergo a course work of 16 credits for the scholars of categories A1 & B1 except for those having Master's Degree in engineering from IITs for whom the minimum credits will be limited to 8 credits and (ii) 24 credits for the scholars of categories A2 & B2.
There will be four papers in the course work of Ph. D.
- Paper I – Research methodology (as per UGC recommendation)
- Paper II- Computer Fundamentals.
- Paper III – On Recent Development in respective discipline
- Paper IV – On Thesis component of the concerned topic.
The total marks in 100 in each paper, and the pass marks is 55%. The duration of the course work shall be covered in a total of 90 hours of teaching for four subjects in one semester.
