About Pondicherry University

Pondicherry University, also known as PU is a central university located in Pondicherry. Established in 1985, this university is recognized by the UGC and approved by the AICTE, NICTE, and DEB. It is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC. PU was ranked in the rank band #101-150 in NIRF 2023 and #1201-1400 in QS World University Rankings 2024. 

Pondicherry University has many collaborations and has signed MOUs with various national and international institutions to provide its students with more opportunities in the field of research. Some of its notable collaborations include institutes like National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology; Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, Latvia; University of TOURS, France; Aberystwyth University, UK; University of Reunion Island, France; and many more. 

Pondicherry University offers more than 150 programs at UG, PG, PG Diploma, Integrated PG and PhD levels in a wide range of specializations in its main campus. Pondicherry University Scholarship offers financial support to the deserving and meritorious students of all the 65 university programmes. Pondicherry University scholarships include numerous merit, merit cum means and category based financial aid. Pondicherry University Scholarships

There are numerous Pondicherry University scholarships that are offered by the Central University itself. One of the most favoured scholarships is the fully free education for all the differently abled students. It covers the full cost of all the differently abled students enrolled in Pondicherry University. To apply for Pondicherry University scholarships, students can submit the financial aid form with the required documents in the admin office during the working hours.

Merit Scholarship
 
  • The first 3 candidates who secure the highest percentage of marks in P.G. admission entrance examination shall be eligible for the award
  • For the subsequent semesters the Merit scholarship at the same rate will be awarded to the first three candidates who secure highest marks in the previous semester(SGPA).
  • Merit scholarship INR 2,000, INR 1,500 & INR 1,000 per month respectively for the first semester. Scholarship is sanctioned on Entrance Examination marks 
  • For the subsequent semesters the Merit scholarship at the same rate of 2,000, 1,500 & 1,000 per month shall be awarded.
Merit-Cum-Means Scholarship
 
  • 20% of the students in each P.G. degree programme are eligible for the award 
  • The scholarship is based both on the merit in each semester(SGPA) and the parental income of the student
  • The annual income of the parents should not exceed INR 2,50,000 (Rupees two lakh fifty thousand only). 
  • Students should secure at least 70% of the attendance every month
  • Students should pass in all papers registered for each semester 
Selection: The Head of the Department concerned shall certify fulfilment of the above conditions.
  • INR 750 per month for 1st Semester scholarship is sanctioned on Entrance exam marks

 
Scholarship for M.Sc. Marine Biology & Disaster Management

  • All selected candidates will be awarded a scholarship of INR 1000 per month to study M.Sc. Marine Biology & Disaster Management at Port Blair, Andamans

 
Scholarship for M.Tech Computational Biology –
  • All selected candidates will be awarded a scholarship of INR 12500 per month

 
Ph.D Scholarship
  • All the full time scholars admitted to the Ph,D. of the University Departments will be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs 8000/- with contingency.

  • 5 year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from six notified minority communities (viz. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh) to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D in a recognized UGC approved university
  • Prior clearance of UGC-NET or Joint CSIR-UGC NET examination 
  • Incom ceiling of the applicant’s family should be INR 6 Lakh per annum
  • Fellowship in Humanities and Social Science and in Engineering & Technology -
  • INR 31,000 per month for initial two years.
  • INR 35,000 per month. for remaining tenure (SRF)
  • Escorts/Reader assistance- Escorts/Reader assistance -INR 2000 per month in cases of physically handicapped & blind candidates.
  • 30% of the fellowship shall be earmarked for women students
Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child
  • The girl students who are admitted to various non-professional PG courses in Universities / Colleges and happen to be the only girl child in the family without having any brother 
  • The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time 1st year Masters Degree course in any recognized university or a postgraduate college
  • This scholarship is available to PG-I year students only. Admission to Distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.
  • Compensation of direct costs of girl education to all levels will be given by the government of India
  • The selected single-girl will receive INR 3,000 per month for 2 years.
PG Merit Scholarship for University Rank Holders by UGC
  • The scholarship will be given to undergraduate First and Second Rank winners who have been accepted into any Postgraduate ourse
  • Students who have enrolled in a conventional, full-time Master's degree program at a recognized university, acknowledged university, private university, autonomous college, or post graduate college are eligible for the program
  • Application process: The National Scholarship Portal of the Government of India will only accept applications once a year.

  • Amount of fellowship: Rs.3,100/- p.m for a period of two years only i.e. full duration of a PG course
