Presidency University, Kolkata invite application from UGC or UGC – CSIR NET / NET – LS qualified candidates for admission to the Ph.D. University provides a Ph.D degree under 13 specializations. Admission to the Ph.D course will be conducted on the basis of entrance examination/interview conducted by the university. The university offers the following specializations in Ph.D. program:

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D research program are as follows:

• Only UGC or UGC-CSIR NET/NET-LS qualified candidates will be eligible for admission.
• Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory, regulatory body, with a minimum of 55% of marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’.
• M.Phil. Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale in the M.Phil. Program coursework.
• A relaxation of 5% of marks will be given to the students belongs to SC/ST category.

Selection Criteria

Selection to the Ph.D program will be on the basis of the entrance test followed by an interview. 

Ph.D Entrance Test

University will conduct Ph.D. Entrance Test for the candidates who have successfully filled the application form and fulfill the eligibility criteria. Candidates must obtain a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, or the minimum equivalent grade decided by the university in the entrance test to qualify for the interview.

Interview/Viva-Voce

Qualification in the entrance test will be followed by an interview conducted by the respective Departmental Ph.D committee of the University.

The interview/viva-voce process shall consist of assessing the candidate on the basis of his/her brief research proposal (of about 500 words) to the interview panel.

The proposal should highlight the applicant’s area of interest and an overview of his/her intended direction of research.

Fill the application form and send it to the university along with attested copies of the required testimonials. After receiving the application form, the admission committee will call the shortlisted candidates for further interview round.
