PDM University Ph.D Admission 2023: Eligibility, Admission, Fees, Course Details

PMD University offers a full-time and part-time Ph.D. program for a duration of 3 and 4 years respectively. One can seek admission to the university either by appearing in the entrance admission test conducted by the university itself or based on national-level exam scores of CSIR (JRF) or UGC (NET) or SET or JEST or GATE or GPAT. Currently, the university is not accepting any applications for Ph.D. However, it usually conducts its PDM University Ph.D. Admission process in the months of June and December.

• Full-time Scholars are those who are not employed anywhere and enroll themselves for a full-time degree while part-time Scholars are those who are employed somewhere else and enroll themselves for Ph.D. at PDM University.

• For full-time scholars, the minimum duration of their Ph.D. course is 3 years and the maximum is 6 years.

• There are also special provisions in the extension of the year for physically- able as well as women students.

PDM University Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria

Given below are the eligibility criteria that enable the applicant to apply to the Ph.D. program. If one fails to satisfy the below conditions, their candidature stands rejected or dismissed.

• Must possess a master’s degree with 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognized university/ college.
• The masters’ degree should be in a concerned or allied subject to which the applicant is applying for in Ph.D.
• There would be a relaxation of 5% to SC, ST, Reserved, and Non- Creamy Layer of the society.
• There would also be a relaxation of marks for differently-abled and other categories of students as prescribed by the UGC from time to time.

PDM University Ph.D. Admission Criteria

Admission to Ph.D. Program at PDM University would be done twice a year. Once it would be done in the month of June and the other in the month of December. 

PDM University Ph.D. Application Process 

• Applicants must apply online through the official website of PDM University. 
• The Departmental Research Committee (DRC) will scrutinize the application of their concerned departments.
• After the scrutinization, all the eligible candidates will be called for an entrance test.
• The eligibility for the entrance test would be based on Ph.D. Entrance Exam marks, qualifying degree score, weight-age (s) if any, and interview.

PDM University Ph.D. Selection Criteria

• An applicant would be short-listed and called for an interview based on the entrance exam marks or scores
• All the applicants who have qualified national level examinations such as CSIR (JRF), UGC (NET), SET, JEST, GATE, GPAT are debarred from PDMU Ph.D. Entrance Examination.
• Applicants who have passed a full-time regular M. Phil course are also exempted from PDMU Ph.D. Entrance Examination
• Departmental Research Committee (DRC) will access the final performance after the interview and approve the candidatures of the students which would confirm their admission followed by paying fees (paying fees is mandatory to confirm the admission)

How to Apply to PDM University Ph.D.?

• Sign Up: After satisfying the eligibility criteria, candidates must apply online on the official website
• Upload Details: After signing up, fill all the relevant details followed by a recent passport size photograph which has to be uploaded along with your signature
• Application Fee: The fee has to be submitted through any online mode. This would be the last process that confirms the application. Application status can be further checked by login the details.

PDM University offers a full-time and part-time Ph.D. program in various specializations. The curriculum of the Ph.D. program will include coursework, seminar, thesis submission, synopsis submission, and viva-voce.

Program Structure

• Duration: Given below is the duration for the completion of the Ph.D. Program at PDM University:

• Course Work: All the applicants who have been registered at PDM University in its Ph.D. program must take coursework. This would be applicable for both CATEGORY 1 and CATEGORY 2 students. Students who completed their M.Phil. Degree (in regular mode) is exempted from this course work and course work examination only if they have done the same course work in their M.Phil.
• Course Schedule: 60 hours of classes for each paper.
• Attendance: 75% compulsory attendance for both full-time and part-time students is required.
• Coursework Examination: The coursework examination is for 3 hours with 100 marks for each theory paper. A minimum of ‘C’ grade on a 10 point scale is mandatory to score. The course will have 2 theory papers:

• Submission of Synopsis: The scholars have to submit 6 copies of the synopsis to DRC via the HOD or Supervisor. They must ensure that they very briefly explain and present in just about 800-1000 words about all the research work that they have done that they will be including in their thesis. A PDF file in the form of a CD or DVD must be submitted.
• Seminar Presentation: There would be a pre- Ph.D. presentation before the submission of the thesis wherein the scholar would present in front of their concerned department faculty members and fellow scholars. 
• Submission of Thesis: The thesis has to be written in English which extensively covers the research done by the scholar. At least 2 research papers must be submitted by the research scholar in any refereed journal. Plagiarism would be accepted on the norms of existing law. The thesis must encode a certificate duly signed by the concerned supervisor. 
• Viva Voce: After the final report from DRC and approval of the thesis, the final viva voce is arranged on the thesis. The viva-voce committee might provide some recommendations and corrections to the scholar (if any). After the final result and recommendation of the Viva Voce Committee, the Dean Academic Affairs on informing DRC will take the final approval from the Vice-Chancellor.
