Two options are available in the Paralegal program: an 89-credit AAS degree program and a 38-credit Certificate program. To be accepted into the AAS Paralegal program, students must first complete the AAS Legal Assistant program, or have prior legal office experience. Upon completion of the Paralegal AAS degree, students will:

  • Be able to think critically
  • Demonstrate organizational skills
  • Work effectively with a variety of legal office professionals and clients
  • Understand and apply legal ethics as required by law
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of the legal system and its various agencies
  • Demonstrate solid interviewing and investigation skills
  • Draft legal documents and memoranda pertinent to specific areas of law
  • Demonstrate excellent writing, listening, and speaking skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge in legal research and writing skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a variety of computer programs
  • Maintain confidentiality

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Submit official transcripts that show high school completion or equivalent
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 or equivalent for admissions consideration
  • Some applicants will have to provide a course by course evaluation of the transcripts by an evaluation agency like WES
  • SAT/ACT score is optional
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 61 in iBT; 500 in PBT
  • IELTS: minimum 5.5 with 5.0 in each band
  • PTE: minimum 44
  • Duolingo: minimum 90
  • SAT: minimum 450 in evidence based reading and writing
  • ACT: minimum 18 in English
