In Oswego's MAT Art program you will explore children's developmental art processes and learn why art education is vital for today's schools. You will gain real world experience through two student teaching placementsl. You will recognize the importance of culturally relevant teaching and incorporate culturally relevant art and art history into your classes and schools.

In our program students will explore children?s developmental art processes and learn why art education is vital for today?s schools. We help ensure you will be prepared from day one through our proven coursework and student teaching experiences.?

By gaining real-world experience through two student teaching placements will you be able to recognize the importance of culturally relevant teaching and incorporate culturally relevant art and art history into your classes and schools. Following completion of the program and NYS certification exams, candidates are eligible for New York State initial teaching certification and will allow you to teach art in public schools.

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed bachelors degree/ masters degree/ advanced certificate
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Submit your resume that should include professional details, history and academic background
  • Submit statement of purpose in less than 500 words describing your personal background
  • Submit fifteen samples of your design work as digital files in your area of interest
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 71 in iBT
  • IELTS: minimum score of 6.0
  • PTE: minimum score of 55
