Our curriculum stresses student mastery of political science in addition to a variety of allied subjects to enhance understanding of the global and domestic contexts of politics. With political science as its core focus, the curriculum includes relevant courses from a number of disciplines, including justice studies, global studies, pre-law, environmental studies, gender studies, communication, economics, history, philosophy, and public health, among others. By merging different types of knowledge into one area, our students will gain a better understanding of power relations, political activity and behavior.

At Westminster's Political Science program, our interdisciplinary curriculum allows you to focus on a wide variety of subjects, both in domestic and global politics. For example, you can focus on one or more of the following topics and issue areas:

  • The study of power relations, politics, and policy at different levels, including the local, national, international, regional and global levels, both within and between different sectors, ranging from governmental to intergovernmental, nongovernmental, and private sectors.
  • The study of political institutions, political culture, political ideologies, and political behavior, including in the realms of governmental institutions, policy formulation, legislation, political organizations, political parties, political participation, and political education at local, national, and international levels.
  • The comparative study of politics and policy between cities, states, nation-states, regions, regional organizations and international organizations.
  • The study of power relations within and across different fields, such as the state, the economy, the environment, culture and the diverse intersecting social relations of gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, (dis)ability, nationality and citizenship/migrant/refugee status, among other categories of identity and diversity.
