Believing that active, engaged learning immerses the mind in critical and creative thinking, Wittenberg's department of communication challenges students to become ethical leaders in reasoning and action by adopting a broad perspective in the study of how people make meaning.

Wittenberg's communication program reinforces the university's liberal arts mission rather than narrowly training a student for a particular career. Students develop the capacities to recognize and evaluate underlying assumptions and values; to work effectively with others through collaboration, team work, and community building; to participate in deliberation for effective decision making; to develop listening, visual, technological, and information literacy - all knowledge and skills that are imperative for a quality life in the 21st century.
