Visa Process for International Students
International applicants need to obtain a student visa to study in the USA. They will require an I-20 form for the visa application.
To get an I-20 to begin the study at W&M you need to follow the following steps:
- You will receive an email from our online system iStart., once you have been admitted to W&M and paid your deposit.
- You will have to complete an online form through iStart., you need to upload copies of your passport identity page (if you have one) and financial documentation (i.e. proof of funding).
- Your request will be electronically approved by the admissions office and then will be sent to the Reves Center.
- Reves Center will then issue the I-20 and notify you that it is on its way.
Once you have obtained your I-20 you need to follow the below-stated instructions:
- Before applying for your F-1 visa, you need to pay a SEVIS Fee of 350 USD
- Schedule your visa appointment interview accordingly.
- Apply for visa: To obtain the visa, you will need the following documents,
- An I-20
- Valid passport
- Certification of Financial Support, bank statement, assistantship or scholarship letter, i.e. evidence of financial support
- Evidence of ties to your home country (employment offer, concrete plans on how your education in the U.S. will help your career in your home country, family and property ties, etc.)
