BU is one of the top private university, and it offers a Computer science program in 2 colleges: The art and science department and Metropolitan College. The graduate art and science department offer a less flexible programme, whereas the metropolitan college provides a more flexible programme(i.e. classes are in the evening). Student can choose either while applying. Data Science Faculty is quite good, and most of the professor had working professional experience in the past.

Course Curriculum

9

The Computer Science department offers a wide variety of elective courses, and those are majorly up to industry standards. These courses are majorly taught by an industry professional. Courses like Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Cybersecurity and Advance database management help students gather the required knowledge for making scalable, secure and fast systems. Courses like Data Science with Python, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence help students update with the latest technologies. Courses like Cryptography and Advance Cryptography help the student understand the functioning of various secure algorithms used in data transmission, blockchain, etc. In all the courses, students are required to work on real projects.

Exams

Boston University offers a Computer science program in 2 colleges: The art and science department and Metropolitan College. The art and science department requires GRE and TOFEL, whereas Metropolitan College only requires TOFEL (if the student has already taken GRE, he/she can submit it). I got 307 in GRE and 96 in TOEFL. Students are required to submit the University Transcript at BU. Additionally, students must submit SOP, 3 LOR's, Resume. Research work is optional, but if you have any, then it is an added benefit.

BU has a university-wide career fair, where students can bag a handsome average package of $100,000. A lot of great companies like Amazon, Oracle, Google, and other participates in University fair. Various startups also participate in this career fair. BU arranges so many workshops before any career fair for a student to give an idea of these career fairs. Student can opt for CPT (Curriculum Practical Training) or OPT (Optional Practical Training) after meeting the minimum requirement of 2 Full Semester(1 academic year).

Internship

No, not yet, There is a minimum requirement of 2 full semester, before any work eligibility.

Events

Campus life is quite good, but due to COVID, it's an all-new experience. A negative test is required before going to college. It's not crowded as it used to be. You can roam nearby and you can breath-taking view of Charles river, old buildings. Boston can be quite costly if someone is looking to stay nearby. Some campus building can be found quite old if you look at them from outside, but it is quite an infrastructure from the inside. College buildings not located in one place, it is quite spread out in Boston. Various buildings are connected by Boston Tram Service(MBTA). Wide varieties of event and extracurricular activities happens all across the semesters. Tickets for cultural events and presentations can be found on Eventbrite. There is innovate@BU, where students can present their ideas; sustainbility@bu, where students can learn and participate in various social cause events. BU Spark is quite a good platform for students where they can learn and grow. Ignite Student Club is one of the clubs associated with BU spark. There is RAIL(Robotics and Ambient Intelligence lab), BU Drone racing club, BU AR/VR club, BU Machine Intelligence Community, BU Gaming clubs and so on.

Faculty

Class has maximum of 40 strength. There is majorly one professor and 2 TA's. Professors are available during office hours apart from the class. Though students can drop an email or visit their chambers in case any more help is required. Prof. Russo of Database Management is exceptionally talented and has industry exposure working with big companies and startups. Prof. Pinsky of Data Science is also extraordinarily talented and has a great way of explaining hard stuff. He even has industry exposure.

Living nearby like Beacon St, Fenway, Kenmore, Charlestown can be quite costly, but if you go near Brighton, St. Stephan Steet, Allston good and slightly cheaper places can be found. The price will start from $800 for the single unfurnished room; if someone is planning to live alone, it can high up to $4000. But you can look for SplitSpot Website, BU Found Study, June Homes to find suitable private or shared rooms under $1100. The majority of students live in 3 BHK or 4 BHK apartments and share them with 5 or 6 other students. This option will only cost $500 to $700. I prefer these options. Students can buy grocery from WholeFoods, Trader Joe. There are very few Indian stores; you can find some Indian Grocery in WholeFood and Trader Joe. You can do shopping at Target. Dunkin and Mc Donalds have cheap coffee. ($2) There are a lot of scammers. If someone is asking to pay ahead, and saying he will send the keys to your address, then most probably, the guys will run with your money. Do not fall into these traps. Long stay Airbnb can be found near BU for a minimum of $1200. Keep checking prices regularly; sometimes you can find quite a good deal. that will be below $1200.
