The nursing program was ranked highly I wanted a big university I wanted to be apart of Greek life and it was instated for me and offered me scholarships that made going here incredibly reasonable. I also love the campus/downtown area.

Course Curriculum :

I really enjoy how as our science courses build leading up to nursing school they become more directed towards us with real-world examples. I also think the university does a great job of incorporating so many hands-on opportunities with simulations and clinical placements for our program.

Exams :

Act only I scored a 30 and took the math placement exam (Aleks) upon entering Iowa I do not remember my score.

Placement :

They are many on-campus job opportunities that are available to all students as long as the student goes out on their own to look and apply for them. Within my college there are many clinical and internship opportunities that lead to job offers in summers and after you graduate.

Internship :

The university offers many internship opportunities by working for different university programs. I have not yet taken advantage of these opportunities because I have taken a job outside of the university. Through the nursing college in your last semester, you do have a full-time internship. Although it is not paid I have heard very positive things about this experience and it often leads to job offers.

Events :

Homecoming is celebrated with a picnic and participating in the parade. We have an open holiday party in November celebrated with snacks desserts and game. We celebrate spring and finals with a cookout and kickball game.

Fees :

For the college of nursing, we have the nation students association fee applied every year. We also have technology and campus fees applied every year. Once you enter the nursing program you have a simulation fee to pay for the technology that comes with clinical.

Scholarship :

I have a scholarship that I received when I applied. Based on my high school academic achievements and act score I was awarded it. Since then I have not had to reapply for it. It is given to me every year as long as I keep my GPA above a certain level.

Examination Structure :

Personally I have only experienced Scranton tests. While this is a standard way to take tests and is fairly straight forward I feel it doesn't always give students the best opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge. Essay questions and open response exams give better chances to demonstrate your understanding of concepts instead of trying to pick the best answer of many when more than one could be right.

Faculty :

Many of the undergraduate general professors give off some vibes of being too smart for us and are not as willing to help students. Many office hours can be intimidating because it seems like the professor just wants you to tell dumb to make themselves feel better. Fortunately, the college of nursing faculty I have had are very dedicated to each students success and always want to help in any way they can.

Hostel :

My freshman year I lived in the dorms as required. The process for room and building selection was very stressful and we were given little to no choices. This past year I have lived in my sorority house which is very far off-campus. There are almost no houses close to campus and it feels like our school does not support Greek life. Next year I plan to live in an apartment.
