Isaac Review at University Of Iowa [UIOWA], Iowa City | Collegedunia

University of IOWA's Review

I
8.5 /10

It was a good program and I got a scholarship to attend the university. Student life is awesome as there is a lot of curricular and extracurricular activities. There are a lot of restaurants and bars by the university.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum is great. There is a lot of diversity in the course work and the professors are amazing. I really enjoyed the international relations classes that I took and there is even a resident former ambassador on staff.

Exams :

I took the ACT and got a 24 and was able to get into the university with a scholarship. I didn't have to take the SAT as the ACT is actually formulated in the Iowa City, Iowa area. Thus the ACT is sufficient.

Placement :

The Pomerantz center does a good job of guiding you overall if you seek their help. There are many career fairs throughout the year that students can take advantage of. Students have to seek out their services though so you have to be proactive.

Internship :

Yes, there are internships but the stipends are trash. They will not even cover the amount needed for living expenses if you take an internship that takes you away from campus. There are many opportunities but unfortunately only for those who can afford it.

Events :

Football games are always celebrated especially the wins. Homecoming is also in the fall in which you have a parade in town and the football game. There is a homecoming court and the student body essentially picks the court although I never knew how the winners were picked.

Fees :

There are all sorts of fees. Student life and activities, for the Rec center, printing and obviously per credit hours. Tuition is based on a per credit basis. Essentially all those student fees get funneled to the student government who then plan events and disperse it to other student orgs who apply for funding for other events.

Scholarship :

Some scholarships are merit-based and others are financially based. One must not forget the interdepartmental scholarships that are available via your program. There are a lot of opportunities to get extra funding via scholarships. You just have to be proactive and keep your GPA relatively high.

Examination Structure :

Depending on the class. Some are multiple choice with essay questions. Some exams are essay only and you have to use a blue book. In my experience, I only had one test that was all multiple choice the rest were essay based. Especially the upper-level courses.

Faculty :

They are amazing, professional, helpful and really down to earth. The variety of classes available is great. That way you can get a flavor of different areas within the college and at the same time meet all the wonderful staff.

Hostel :

I lived on campus all of the four years but a lot of people lived in houses or apartments close by. There are a lot of opportunities to sub-let places for cheap or get several roommates. The Iowa City area is a little on the expensive side.
