Hashim Javed Review at Purdue University, West Lafayette | Collegedunia

I'm fairly happy with the overall experience at Purdue.

7.2 /10

There were a couple of factors for example the Computer Science program here is really good. Secondly, my elder brother was enrolled at the same University. Thirdly, the tuition, as well as the boarding costs, are not exorbitant like in California for instance.

Course Curriculum :

I think the course is very relevant and it is thoroughly revised in order to meet industry standards. The University hosts a lot of mixers, career fairs, research fairs, Company Days, etc. so that you have exposure to the best possible resources.

Exams :

For UK applications, I had to submit a Personal Statement. For the US, I had to write an essay, a couple of supplements which were specific to the university (for example Why Purdue?) and send 2 letters of recommendation. I did not have any interviews or tests.

Placement :

I have a lot of seniors who got accepted into FAANG companies. Others have secured internships/jobs in Tesla, Salesforce, Goldman Sachs, etc. The alumni network is really strong as well because just yesterday I was offered a referral for a Software Engineering role at a company I'm really interested in.

Internship :

I did an internship at a company I co-founded along with two other people. It's called Corrado.

Fees :

Around 32000 Dollars for international students

Scholarship :

I didn't receive any scholarship.

Faculty :

It varies from class to class. For the gen-eds, there can be like 100-200 people in a class. However, the more specialized classes have a 30:1 student-teacher ratio on average. I'm pretty satisfied with the faculty and staff because, for the most part, I did not have any difficulties understanding the course material or concepts. Even if I did, they were office hours for TAs which helped really helped me out. Some of the professors who have left an incredible impact on me include Professor Jeff Turkstra, Professor Mark Reiff, and Professor Buster Dunsmore.

Hostel :

I live off-campus. There are a couple of housing management companies that lease apartments annually os semi-annually. Prices for the apartment may vary from $325 per month up to $1000 on average depending on the quality of the apartment.
