Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. It is a peculiarly human endeavor that attempts to organize our experience in a quantitative fashion. Mathematics aids and supplements our intuitions about the physical universe and about human behavior.The mission of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Florida Atlantic University is to foster understanding of the mathematical sciences, including both pure and applied aspects of the discipline.We strive to provide first-rate undergraduate and graduate education in the mathematical sciences to our students and to increase mathematical ability in the community at large.We seek to advance the frontiers of mathematical knowledge by engaging in innovative research and tackling fundamental problems in the mathematical sciences.We work to bridge research, education, and applications of the mathematical sciences to serve the needs of the local community and larger global society.
