Architecture at BGSU is a pre-professional program for students who want to pursue a career in architecture or in a related field, such as computer-aided design, urban design or historic preservation. The program focuses on enhancing students’ problem-solving abilities and developing a mentality of critical thinking and social responsibility. The major emphasizes the integration of architecture with the environment, as well as the broader relationship of a building or structure to its site and the larger communities it serves.

Upon successful completion of the program in architecture and environmental design at BGSU, students will earn the degree of bachelor of science in architecture. Graduates may choose to pursue a master of architecture degree to be qualified for further professional advancement leading to becoming a licensed professional architect.

The curriculum of architecture and environmental design is designed to blend creativity with technical skill. At its center is the sequence of rigorous design studios. The curriculum also includes courses in architectural drawing and model building, computer-aided architectural design and representation, architectural history and theory, and building science. Students also must take BG Perspective (general education) courses in areas of English composition and oral communication, quantitative literacy, humanities and the arts, social and behavioral sciences, and natural sciences.

The Architecture and Environmental Design programme is offered at Bowling Green State University.
