Chemistry is the study of how substances behave and how their properties are changed. Understanding chemistry is essential to many other fields of science such as biology, geology and medicine. Chemistry includes many subspecializations including analytical chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and physical chemistry. Other more specialized areas are spectroscopy, photochemistry, forensic chemistry and biomedical aspects of biochemistry.
Studying chemistry at BGSU will prepare you for an exciting range of career options from developing and analyzing alternative fuels, to medial research and forensic science, to education or law. Chemistry also provides excellent preparation for further study related to patient care including medicine, veterinary science, dentistry, or pharmacy.
Most importantly, your experience as a chemistry major will be defined by small class sizes and personal relationships with BGSU faculty. Such close interaction with faculty will allow you to immediately pursue research projects — an opportunity limited to graduate students at many other institutions.
