Modern society needs a steady supply of well-trained, knowledgeable environmental scientists with broad-based, interdisciplinary science training and strong problem-solving skills. Students completing the environmental science major have a wide range of excellent career opportunities. Graduates are prepared for positions in fields such as natural-resource management, wildlife protection and preservation, biological and chemical quality monitoring, watershed management, geospatial systems analysis, conservation biology, environmental remediation, energy systems design, and sustainable management. Opportunities exist in business as consultants, in industry and government as managers and technicians, and in non-profit organizations as technical specialists working on current threats to environmental integrity.

Graduates may work for industry helping to assess and minimize waste streams while providing quality control in product design. Increasingly, graduates are needed to address solid waste disposal problems, devise products using recycled materials, and helping industry reduce their carbon footprint. Demand is increasing in outdoor schools, travel and adventure programs. Government agencies are a source for many jobs for environmental scientists, who help the agencies respond to management challenges and provide healthy and attractive communities. In addition to these opportunities available to our graduates, some students elect to continue their education through professional training in medicine, veterinary medicine or law, while others pursue graduate degrees in areas such as conservation biology and environmental management.

The Environmental Science programme is offered at Bowling Green State University.
