Career Opportunities

Graduates of the program become entry-level administrators who will need a graduate degree such as a master’s of business administration or master’s of health care administration to become department heads of administrative units.

Curriculum

Students will be enrolled in the applied health science degree program in the College of Health and Human Services. This degree program requires a diverse range of courses in science, public health, human growth and development, and health.

In addition to applied health science core courses, students complete a minor in general business. The minor assures that graduates will have a foundation of business knowledge required for administrative positions and will be prepared for future business studies.

Health care administration students are required to complete an internship that provides students with practical experience. The internship must be approved by the program advisor, and is designed to be completed during the summer between the junior and senior year.

College Highlights

BGSU’s College of Health and Human Services was the first collegiate unit in northwest Ohio devoted exclusively to academic programs in health and human services.

There are eight active student organizations with many connected to their national professional affiliation. Each program emphasizes hands-on opportunities through practical experiences and laboratory courses.

The college sponsors a Natural and Health Sciences Residential Community where students benefit from learning and socializing with other students taking similar classes, increased contacts with faculty in the health-science academic majors, and academic advising and career exploration that takes place within the residence hall.

Program Highlights

The applied health science degree (health care administration specialization) combines a solid business curriculum with a variety of health and science courses to prepare future health care administrators to understand somewhat about disease and the health care providers who treat patients.
