Internships

Internships are transitions between school and work. The programs provide students with academic credit while pursuing on-the-job experiences. Internship opportunities are available throughout California, the U.S., and around the world.

Communication Activities

Communication houses a number of student-operated programs, including The Orion (a student-run news organization), the nationally recognized Speech and Debate Team, Tehama Group Communications (a student-managed public relations agency), Communication Design Associates (a student-staffed media development group) and numerous student clubs and organizations.

Career Outlook

The field of communication is dynamic and expanding. It is energized by the continual and rapid development of digital communication and the growing industrial, business, government, and personal use of these technologies.

The BA in Communication Design provides opportunities for positions in graphic design, video production and broadcasting, and other media-related fields. The Graphic Design option focuses on skills in commercial art, corporate communication, advertising and environmental design. The Mass Communication Design option prepares students for opportunities in many media industries and agencies, as well as for the pursuit of advanced degrees in media-related disciplines. The Media Arts option provides education in all forms of electronic media, including television, radio, digital production, and post production. Many graduates go on to careers in scriptwriting, producing, directing, and other facets of media production and broadcasting.

The BA and MA in Communication Studies prepares students for professional positions in public and corporate life. Students are trained in communication in groups, organizational, interpersonal relationships, across cultures and communities, the nature of language and symbols, and the nature of argument and persuasion in political settings and social movements. Graduates work in a variety of fields and in management positions in corporate, nonprofit and government settings. MA graduates are trained in conducting communication research and are qualified to teach communication studies courses at community colleges and four-year universities.
