- From the twitch of a muscle fiber to the silent explosion of a supernova, every happening in the universe is linked at an atomic level by the principles of chemistry. Chemists analyze substances, like testing environmental samples; create new substances, as in medical and product manufacturing; test theories using chemical analysis; and measure the properties of substances, like the strength of materials used in engineering.
- At UC Davis, students have the flexibility to pursue an A.B. or B.S. degree in chemistry. Their A.B. degree is ideal if students plan to go into teaching or pursue a professional degree, while UC Davis general B.S. degree in chemistry is certified by the American Chemical Society and provides students with more rigorous scientific preparation.
- Other bachelor programs in chemistry offered at UC Davis allow students to undertake more focused studies, e.g. chemical physics, pharmaceutical chemistry and applied chemistry with an emphasis in either environmental or forensic chemistry.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- A high school diploma (or equivalent)
- Students who are not residents of California must earn a GPA of 3.40 or higher.
- SAT/ACT scores
- The University of California Board of Regents unanimously approved the suspension of the standardized test requirement (ACT/SAT) for all California freshman applicants until fall 2024.
- If students’ native language and school language of instruction prior to their study in the United States were not English, then they must demonstrate English proficiency. They can do so by submitting TOELF/IELTS score reports.
Indian Eligibility:
- Students must complete their standard XII years of education and sit for 10th and 12th-year board/state examinations.
Scores Required
SAT/ACT scores are made optional until fall 2024.
