Bachelor of Science [B.S] [Sociology] From Northern Illinois University

Sociology is study of the dynamics of social life, social change and the underlying social causes and consequences of behavior. Students take courses reflecting the diversity of subject areas prominent in the field, including social psychology, criminology, social inequality (race, class, gender), terrorism, social change, health and medical sociology, urban sociology, social theory and research methods. Students majoring in sociology may earn either a B.A. or B.S. degree.

The sociology major provides students with a variety of opportunities to become even more engaged in the field and in doing so develop new skills, experiences and credentials of distinction:

Baccalaureate graduates in sociology find employment in a wide range of careers: research, community development, criminal justice, health services, policy development, public relations, and social services.
