Welcome to the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies. We offer a wide range of courses designed to train you in the languages, cultures, and histories of Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia. Our curriculum ranges from nineteenth-century Russian literature to the modern Turkish novel, twentieth-century Eastern European cultures to Islamic cultures in Eurasia. Our language offerings are extensive, and students may study up to six years of Russian, three years of Polish and Turkish, and two years of Romanian.

Our primarily seminar-style courses allow us to work closely with you, and our faculty members' reputations as distinguished scholars in their respective fields assure you of excellent opportunities for professional development, networking, and placement. Our students also benefit from distinctive clusters of faculty expertise in the arts (theater, music, film), gender studies (language, literature, history), linguistics, and translation.
