Because of the strong foundation the curriculum of the The program from Gannon University provides in research methods, liberal studies core and behavioral sciences, the psychology major prepares the student to pursue graduate study in a variety of fields including psychology, social work, counseling, business and healthcare administration, law and others. It also prepares the student for other careers that require a strong liberal arts background.  

You Will Experience

Psychology majors are encouraged to participate in an internship as a junior or senior.  This working experience gives students the opportunity to see which career path might fit them best.  Students work with an advisor to design an internship that is most suitable to their career interests and their schedule. Students may network to procure an internship in their home area, completing the internship over the summer.  During the academic semesters there are many diverse opportunities available to Gannon students here in the Erie community, such as: 

  • Achievement Center and Sarah Reed Children’s Center (child mental health)
  • Erie Sleep and Wellness Center and Northshore Psychological Associates (neuroscience)
  • Gaudenzia Erie and Pyramid Healthcare (drug and alcohol)

You Will Achieve

Graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology are well prepared for law school, or for master’s degree programs in disciplines such as counseling, social work or business.

Academic Requirements:

  • Completion of 16 academic units at the high school level, four in English; three in mathematics; two in science and remaining seven in social sciences and foreign language

  • Demonstrate interest and motivation through extracurricular activities
