- Upon completing the BA degree with a major in Computational and Applied Mathematics, students will be able to:
- Apply fundamental mathematics to perform critical analysis of an abstracted version of a real-world problem and to build a model that captures the problem’s salient characteristics.
- Design, implement and debug a computer program to solve a computational problem.
- Critically analyze a mathematical or computational problem, explore techniques to model and solve the problem, and use mathematical or computational methods to produce one or more solutions.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students must have an official secondary school transcript to get admission.
- Students are required to maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA.
Language Requirments:
- Students whose official language is not English are required to submit IELTS or TOEFL scores.
- Students are required to submit an SAT or ACT score to be considered for admission.
International students who currently or will hold a degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction, do not need to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score report.

VISA & Work Study

- Typically degree-seeking international students will come to study on an F-1 student visa and exchange students on a J-1 Exchange Visitor visa. To apply for an F-1 or J-1 visa, the student will need an I-20 or DS-2019 immigration documents, respectively. Occasionally international students may study other visa classifications, depending on their situation, so please check with an OISS advisor if students plan to stay on current visa classification.
- Please keep in mind that all international students regardless of visa type are required to attend the international orientation and to check in with OISS at the start of their program at Rice University.
- Once admitted, all new international students must complete their international student profile in the OISS Portal, regardless of their current or prospective immigration status.
