The department offers students first-year composition, a variety of specialized courses to help improve writing skills, a bachelor?s in professional and technical writing, and a master?s degree in professional and technical writing.
The first-year composition sequence consists of RHET 1311 Composition I and RHET 1312 Composition II. These courses fulfill the UA Little Rock core curriculum requirements. Students must complete RHET 1311 with a grade of C or greater before enrolling in RHET 1312. Together, these courses help students develop the writing skills needed to pursue a college degree. In addition, RHET 0310 Composition Fundamentals is offered for students who are not prepared for RHET 1311.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Submit official secondary school transcripts with both original and English translations
- Transcripts must be stamped or embossed by the issuing institution to confirm that they are original
- Submit a certificate or diploma confirming graduation from secondary institution
- Applicant should have completed following courses in secondary school: Studies of native language; English, Mathematics, social science, physical science/ natural science
- Applicants should submit SAT/ACT scores
- Submit English language proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT;
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- PTE: minimum 58
