Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Agricultural Communication and Journalism)
Field of Study:
$27,606/Yr
This program is also unique because students graduate with two degrees – a BS in agricultural communications and journalism and a BS in journalism. This means that students are able to work in the broad field of journalism, but they also have the knowledge and qualifications to specialize in agricultural communications careers. Students take coursework in a variety of technical agricultural disciplines, including animal science, plant science, agricultural economics, textiles, and biotechnology. This training provides students with the basic knowledge to draw from as they communicate the importance of the food and fiber industry.
Students may elect to concentrate their coursework within one of the three journalism major emphases, or they may construct an individually designed concentration with the approval of the Journalism and Communication Department faculty.
- Broadcast/Electronic Media: This emphasis focuses on the distribution of video and audio content to a wide audience via television, radio, and the Internet. Students will learn to write radio and TV scripts, as well as how to use electronic media equipment. Students can get hands-on experience by becoming involved with Utah Public Radio, Aggie radio, or Aggie TV.
- Print Journalism: In this emphasis, students learn how to find, collect, and report the news. Students typically find careers writing for either a newspaper or magazine. Most students in this emphasis write for the on-campus newspaper, The Utah Statesman.
Public Relations/Corporate Communications: Public relations is concerned with maintaining the public perception of an organization, business, or person. A PR professional may be involved with image building, media relations, event planning, crisis management, web communications, social media, etc.
