Incorporated as Mercer Institute in 1833, the institute is a private organization located at Macon, Georgia that received its university status in the year 1837. The institute is presently one of the prestigious names in the US Education System which is spread across four diverse locations namely Macon, Atlanta, Savannah and Columbus, and regional study centers at Douglas and Henry County.

Programs, Campus and Accommodation

Campus

  • The University’s campus is spread over 150 acres in Macon and houses schools for Art and sciences, Engineering, Music, and Business.
  • The 98,000 sq ft large library, Six on-campus dining locations, different planned and professional academic facilities are a few standout structures amongst the 40 buildings situated within the Campus.
  • The Campus also provides on-campus housing. The Campus also has an Athletics department, a 3,500-seat basketball area, an indoor swimming pool, gym, intramural basketball courts, and many meeting areas and halls.
  • The campus has over 150 student organizations that can be mainly placed under Academic, Club Sports / Recreation, Faith-based, Governance, Media / Arts, Programming, Service, etc. that help in providing social values and experience of community life.

Housing facilities/ Residence

  • The university’s first, second and third-year students are required to live on Campus till the age of 22.
  • The campus has four traditional-style residence halls with community bathrooms, 5 style accommodation halls, and 4 apartment-style with kitchen residence halls. Basic amenities are provided in all accommodation types.
  • The cost of residence halls is around USD 6000 for one year whereas the apartments are more expensive than these halls.
  • Facilities like Wi-fi Internet, On-campus Dining, Food Truck, laundry services, refrigerator, vending machine, common TV viewing areas, etc for the comfort of the students.

Courses

  • The University provides an array of courses for international students which comprises more than 180 undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs through 12 schools and colleges.

Basic Admissions Requirements

  • Standardized Test Scores: SAT scores 1280 and ACT composite score of minimum 27 is required.
  • Official transcripts of High school/College degree with a GPA of 3.94 plus or equivalent. These transcripts must be attested by the issuing university or Board.
  • English Language proficiency test(s) IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 80 for international non-native English speaking applicants.

Scholarships/Financial Aid

The University offers different grants and scholarships for international students to study in the USA based on merit and need of the applicants. The students need to be in full-time courses to avail of the scholarships and grants which are only towards the tuition fee reduction or waiver. 

If a student receives any other tuition grant the university’s grant is canceled. 70% of students are awarded some form of financial aid. The average need-based scholarship offered is of USD 25,059.

 The university has 8 to 10 Global Leadership scholarships of USD 8,000 per year for students who will opt for at least 8 weeks of study abroad program. Many of the scholarships are specifically for local students. The need-based scholarships are given to all of the applicants and are successfully able to demonstrate the financial need.
