From beginning French to French studies in France, the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers a French major that builds proficiency in the five areas necessary for communication: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural competence. It also strengthens students' understanding of the literature, history, customs, and culture of the people who use the language and improves their employment opportunities in a global society.
