- The curriculum also incorporates contemporary new products to include wood and non-wood products that come from agricultural residues, other natural fibers, natural-based adhesives, non-wood materials and other contemporary engineered products.
- Additionally, specialty chemicals such as paints and adhesives from natural resources and bio-based energy such as that related to wood pellets, bio-oil and wood alcohol are increasingly important with respect to sustainable industrial production.
- In addition to utilizing timber and agricultural residues, the discipline seeks to make housing and other structures last longer via preservative treatments and better construction techniques.
