Master of Science [M.S] (Special Education - K-12)

Our Special Educator initial licensure, endorsement program is designed for individuals wanting to become Pre-K to 12th grade teachers who can work with students who have mild to severe disabilities. Candidates who successfully complete this program are eligible for an initial Oregon teacher license with a special education endorsement.
The Oregon TSPC (Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) requires teachers in this field to be authorized to teach at one of two age-level authorizations: (1) early childhood/elementary or (2) middle school/high school. All endorsement course work taken at the 500 level can be included in the M.S. in Education: Special Education degree.
- The Special Educator I?program is designed for teachers who hold or are eligible to hold a valid initial teaching license. Six terms of full-time training are required to complete the program.
- The Special Educator II?program is designed for students who do not hold a teaching license. Six terms of full-time training are required to complete this program.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed a bachelors degree equivalent of USA’s four year bachelors degree
- Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
- Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent in last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
- Applicants with GPA lower than 3.0 need to submit official test scores of GRE (147 in verbal, 148 in quantitative and 3.5 in analytical writing) or MAT (395 or higher)
- Submit your current resume
- Submit a personal statement describing your experience working with individuals with disabilities, your career goals and explain how a Master’s Degree in Special Education will help you accomplish these goals, the qualities that make you a good match for this specific program as well as your plan for being successful within the program
- Submit two letters of recommendation describing qualities that make you successful for working with youth
- Submit Official English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Proficiency:
- TOEFL: minimum 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.0
- Duolingo: minimum 100
