Sociological analyses include the examination of social stratification and inequality, work and industrial relations, family forms and relationships, deviant behavior, social movements and revolutions, globalization, political relations and institutions, and the relationship between the individual and society.

The Sociology program at Western Oregon University provides a strong educational foundation for graduate study and various professional careers. This includes training in writing, research, and analysis, all connected to the development of theory and social science. It is also a goal of the department to train and motivate students to be activists in the service of progressive causes.
