Bachelor of Arts [B.A] [English: Theater] From University of Rochester

The Department of English is devoted to the critical study of literature and language, indeed to the study of creative expression of many kinds, including film and other media. We offer courses in all periods and genres of English, American, and Anglophone literature—poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and drama—as well as a wide array of classes in creative writing, film, media studies, journalism, rhetoric, and theater. The department joins critics, scholars, and artists in an environment that fosters interactive learning and teaching, with extensive opportunities to pursue internships and independent research.

Our department is home to variety of scholarly and creative interests. Students majoring in English can:

• Explore literary works—poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction—from all the traditions of British and American literature

• Study works in film and media

• Develop their talents in creative writing and theater

• Pursue studies in journalism, rhetoric, and debate

Our classes encourage exploratory thinking and critical conversation, always aiming to increase the students' knowledge, their skills in reading and critical analysis, and their strengths as writers and readers.
