  • The Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) program offers a curriculum based on theoretical foundations and practical applications. The curriculum includes advanced courses in core areas of computer science and flexible electives to meet your professional goals. Students can customize their curriculum with the General Option, or choose one of the pre-built specializations.
  • In the General Option, students choose their electives. Students can develop a focused or broad foundation that aligns with their interests and academic goals. There are two variations of the MSCS General Option:
    • Course Only: Students take an additional elective course and a seminar that explores state-of-the-art technological advances in computer science.
    • Research Project: Students complete a faculty-supervised research project spanning two to three quarters. These projects connected to a local industry partner through the Project Center.
  • Applicants can select whether to pursue the Course Only or Research Project option after enrollment. Depending on background and time to graduation, students in the General Option may have the option to switch to one of the MSCS specializations after enrollment.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Official scores from a Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) taken within the last five years sent directly from the testing agency. This requirement has been made optional through Fall 2022
  • Applicants for whom English is a non-native language must demonstrate English proficiency regardless of English language studies, academic history, residence in the United States or an English-speaking country, or immigration status. English proficiency may be met with an official TOEFL score, or the IELTS exam; PTE score; or Duolingo score of 110.
  • Seattle University will assume responsibility for an evaluation of students' required academic records for applicants who completed coursework outside of the United States. The evaluation is not an English translation of the academic records, but a separate document determining if the degree received outside the U.S. is equivalent to a U.S. degree, and a GPA is calculated.
    • An official original set of transcripts, degree certificates, and/or graduation certificates must be submitted to Seattle University upon admission. Documents are considered official only when they arrive in the original envelope from the issuing institution or sent electronically via a secured institution to the institution system. If students’ official documents are received in English we would not ask for them in the original language as well.

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 in the last 90 quarter or 60 semester credits as well as any postbaccalaureate coursework.
