- In the A.B. Program in Interdisciplinary Art and Design, students are taught to use techniques and tools associated with studio media; to understand the non-verbal language of art and design in terms of artistic principles and application; to be able to organize visual elements both rationally and intuitively according to understood artistic principles; and to become familiar with the major achievements in the history of art. The program requires 24 hours in studio art beyond the 15 hours in Area VI of the core curriculum. Thus, the major requires a total of 39 hours of studio courses. In addition to the Monuments of Art History, students must take 9 hours of art history at the 3000 or 4000 level. Required electives include a second literature course and a foreign language through the fourth semester. The A.B. Program in Interdisciplinary Art and Design is intended for students who want more academic courses and freedom to choose electives over a wider range of offerings than is afforded by the B.F.A. programs in Studio Art.
- This degree program provides the student with a broad liberal arts education; it can, therefore, be used as the basis for further study in many fields, including art, or qualify a person for entry-level positions that require a liberal arts education.
