I was looking to stay at home for the first year so Guelph was the ideal choice. I applied to Biomedical Toxicology since Guelph is known to have a reputable science program. Staying close to home as important to save money and keep other costs low.
Course Curriculum
The courses are mostly standardized which I'm not a huge fan of. I don't test well and I wish everything wasn't about marks. Participation and actually enjoying what you study should count for more. When you only learn something in order to be tested on it, it takes away from the learning experience. I really like the labs though. It's a good hands-on experience and it makes the curriculum more enjoyable.
Fees
The fee structure was reasonable. I think we should have free access to our gym facility since we each pay and $150 athletic fee per semester. Some of the fees are definitely a money grab which makes students more reluctant to opt-in to more important organizations such as sustainable materials and bus passes.
Examination Structure
Not amazing. The courses are mostly standardized which I'm not a huge fan of. I don't test well and I wish everything wasn't about marks. Participation and actually enjoying what you study should count for more. When you only learn something in order to be tested on it, it takes away from the learning experience.
Faculty
My faculty at my college is helpful. They hold many office hours and most of the TAs are usually happy to help. Some professors are obviously more experienced and better at lecturing.
