There were more opportunities at this university when it comes to resources, better gym, more people and definitely better socials. Had a large variety of programs including the program I did which the previous university didn't have. Admission Process Easy, application fees roughly $4500, didn't apply to other ones.
Course Curriculum :
Heavy on the sciences (i.e. Chemistry), well laid out, however there were a lot of labs associated with each class and therefore the ideal "4 Year Degree" may turn into a 4 and a half to 5 years to do. Most courses are interesting and some were relevant for when you get a job.
Exams :
More jobs than the previous degree I was doing (i.e. Biology). I enjoy learning about food and very small classes which is anywhere from 10-25 people/class. The world will need more food and therefore I decided to look into this program. The degree required roughly 125 credits. In order to be eligible for the program, you need to have done 40S Sciences in high school such as Biology, Chem, Physics, Math etc. I didn't have to take any exams to get in but it would be slightly harder to get in than just a University 1 Program.
Placement :
Around 90% of the companies that visited are for Agribusiness, Agronomy, and Agriculture Diploma students and most of those graduates get a job instantly after graduating (i.e. 80%). For Food Science not as much (50-60%) get a job after, and the annual salary varies from $35,000-$40,000. Jobs offered after Grad would be Quality Assurance/Quality Control Technician for a Food Plant.
Internship :
However when I went there not that many. If you are doing Agribusiness/Agronomy, Diploma degree there are tons, however for Food Science not many. I did a internship and it definitely opened my eyes to know what to expect in the industry, strongly recommend it.
Events :
Frosh Week (Opening Week of U of M), Halloween is big there. More or less there is always socials happening.
Fees :
The Fee was roughly $4500.00 or so since it was a science program. It was similar to the Faculty of Science, and most of the additional charges are for the labs that were used. For international students, there are scholarships available on the websites including the faculty website and the University of Manitoba Website.
Examination Structure :
Exam Structure was similar to other Science Exams in the University. The labs sometimes overlap into the Exam.
Faculty :
The Faculty had a lot of resources if need be, fun socials, good advisors, not as many interns for the designated degree. The first-year level classes were big but once you get into the 2nd and 3rd-year classes they become much smaller. Most professors who were teaching had a Ph.D. (i.e. 90% or so). The ratio was better than in some other faculty's such as Sciences, and I found it a lot easier making time to meet my professors.
Hostel :
Stayed at my house as in Winnipeg, as long as you live in the city it is roughly with in an hour to get there. Parking is roughly $550/semester and it is easy to find spots verses the U of W in downtown.
